    • What: Meeting
    • Where: 329 Norm Asbjornson Hall
    • Topic: During this meeting we will discuss plans for this semester, including volunteer opportunites, an upcoming optics company tour, and organizing informal socials. Members and newcomers can suggest speakers or topics for future meetings. We will also discuss an open SPIE officer position for anyone interested.
  • Friday, February 1st, 2019, 5:00-7:00 PM
    • What:  Company Tour
    • Where:  Blackmore Sensors and Analytics (136 Enterprise Blvd. Bozeman) -- Meet at 4:45 PM in Barnard Hall Lobby
    • About: Blackmore Sensors and Analytics is a leader in cutting-edge LIDAR technology, located right here in Bozeman! They design and manufacture remote sensing equipment and develop control and analysis software utilized in military, commercial, and academic fields.

  • Thursday, February 14th, 2019, 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM
    • What: Engineer-a-thon
    • Where: Shroyer Gym, Marga Hosaeus Fitness Center
    • About: Volunteer at the SPIE booth at this event. Demonstrate to participating students how polarized materials and other light filters interact with infrared light. If interested, please email the SPIE group at spie.msu.secretary@gmail.com. Available shifts are 1 hour long (set up), 2 shifts each 2 1/2 hours long (morning and afternoon), and tear down.
  • Tuesday, February 19th, 2019, 5:00-6:00 PM
    • What: Meeting
    • Where: 331 Norm Asbjornson Hall
    • Speaker: Dr. Jake Jacobsen, Synopsys, Inc.
    • Topic:  Dr. Jacobsen, Senior Technical Marketing Manager for Code V and LightTools optical design software, will talk to us about his experience in the optics industry. Synopsys develops a wide variety of technology which are related to the Internet of Things, with an emphasis on security. Jacobsen specializes in the continued development and specialization of the optical design software for important customers.

    • Topic: During this meeting we will be discussing the upcoming Resonon tour as well as the International Day of Light event in May. We will also begin discussing leadership positions for the next academic year.

    • Where:  Resonon (123 Commercial Dr, Bozeman) -- Meet at 4:35 PM in Barnard Hall Lobby
    • About: Resonon, Inc. is a local Bozeman company founded in 2002. They specialize in hyperspectral imaging hardware and software. Included in their products are ready-made, turn-key airborne (drone-mounted) remote sensing systems.

  • Sunday, April 14th, 2019, 11:30 AM - 3:30 PM
    • What: Astronomy & Aerospace Day
    • Where: Museum of the Rockies
    • About: Volunteer at the SPIE booth at this event, or attend to learn about space and its relation to our lives on Earth. The SPIE booth will showcase polarization and infrared camera demonstrations.Info about Astronomy and Aerospace Day may be found here.

    • What: Meeting
    • Where: 331 Norm Asbjornson Hall
    • Topic: During this meeting we will hold elections for SPIE student chapter officers for the 2019-2020 school year. We will also discuss further the International Day of Light event in May.
  • Saturday, May 18th, 2019, 5:30-7:30 PM
    • What:  International Day of Light at the Museum of the Rockies
    • Where:  Museum of the Rockies
    • About: This free event, held the Saturday after the International Day of Light (May 16th), celebrates the importance of light in our everyday lives and in our local community. Open to all ages, the event will have several displays and demonstrations from local optics clubs and businesses showcasing many properties and uses of light. In addition there will be a series of talks from members in our local optics community about optical phenomena in everyday life.

      To tie in with light's influence in art and culture, there will also be a photography contest with photos showcasing the importance of light. All ages are allowed to enter. Finalists will have their photos displayed at the event, and winners will be given prizes.
